A. Lange & Söhne Datograph : The Greatest Chronograph of All Time

We’re beyond proud, excited, and honored to offer this timepiece not just as retailer, but as a genuine watch enthusiast!

Usually, the thrill for a collector comes from finding something rare, exclusive, or limited. But the Datograph is different. At the time of writing, there are around 25 active listings for this model. It’s not rare. It’s not limited. And yet—it has us more excited than any watch we’ve ever handled.

Creating an in-house chronograph is one of the most difficult challenges in watchmaking—and Lange nailed it. When launched in 1999, the Datograph became the first fully in-house chronograph developed after the quartz crisis. The legendary Philippe Dufour even called its movement—the Caliber L951.1—the best chronograph ever made. Its architecture, finishing, and technical prowess remain unmatched. It’s been praised countless times, and deservedly so. Lange decorated the movement so meticulously, It could easily be mistaken for a caliber from today’s indies!

This particular variant the platinum case with black dial is, in our view, the most striking. Despite being less rare than some others, it exudes presence and heft, weighing a substantial 125g (head only). On the wrist, it feels like a true masterpiece. It’s thick and heavy, yet those traits only add to its character. Pair it with a lighter strap, and it almost topples over, it’s that solid.

One of the most underrated details? The jumping minute counter. A marvel of engineering that took Lange numerous attempts to perfect. And then there’s the movement itself—a stunning, three-dimensional city of gears, levers, and bridges. Show it to anyone and the reaction is always the same: “Wow.”

To never experience a Datograph is to miss out on one of horology’s finest achievements. Every collector should at least try one on or better yet, own one. We’re lucky to live in an era where such masterpieces are still attainable. We all must be incredibly thankful to lange for this creation! And @langepedia for sharing in depth knowledge on these!

Came as a full kit, first generation “meter” dial, Now sold!
