Credor GCLP 989

$0.00
sold out

Credor GCLP 989. A piece of art. Features a spring drive movement with big date complication in a 38mm case and comes in at 8mm thin. The star of the show is the dial. The dial is entirely hand crafted by the finest artisans at Credor. The dial is a Urushi lacquer dial with very interesting elements incorporated.

The concept of this dial is ‘sakura fubuki’ which is cherry blossoms under moonlight. When can try to connect the dots here, the power reserve indicator is the moon, theres a star by the big date and the center portion of the dial are the cherry blossoms shining under the moonlight.

The opal like part of the dial(MOP) is crafted using a technique called Raden, in which mother of pearl inlays which are sometimes up to 0.2mm thin are placed on dial and covered with multiple layers of lacquer and polished to be fused into the dial. The 12, 3, 6, 9 indices and the center portion of the dial etc are all crafted using this technique.

Another technique used to craft the dial is ‘maki-e’ in which gold/ platinum powders are smoothly but finely brushed on top of lacquer to obtain desired patterns. The remaining indices, power reserve indicator, some center portions between the mop portions i believe are done using this technique. Quoted from one of the maki e artist “ the technique is very hard to practice as the hand moves the brush over the lacquer while applying the dust, you should barely notice that its being moved. It should be a very smooth and fine motion!”

These art practices are performed by handful of artists at Credor and has been a dying art. Credor’s creativity, artistry and technical prowess are really second to none! For nearly a fifth of the price of the eichi 2. This watch is a bargain for what it is! Best part is it comes full kit and even the box has the mop inlays!
